My Face still hurts from this one LOL?
Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a high school diploma to fix one.

By the way, UPS is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an accident.

Submit Your Site To Search Engines
There are many Search Engines and Directories, but only a few major ones will bring you most traffic. In this article I will describe how to submit your site to Yahoo, Google and Open Directory
1.) Directories And Indexes
First, I would like to describe a difference between Directory and Index. Directory is a collection of links divided by subjects just like Yahoo Directory at dir.yahoo.com. Let’s say you are interested in Finance. Go to Business & Economy section and press Finance. You will find variety of topics listed under Finance.
Index is the number of sites available for search. For example, you go to Yahoo.com and enter “Napoleon” in search box. Results will show a number of sites related to Napoleon in Yahoo Index. The same is true for any other search term. There are millions of sites in listed in major Indexes.
2.) How To Submit Your Site To Yahoo Directory
Listing with Yahoo Directory will provide several benefits for your site. First of all, you will get some traffic from Yahoo Directory. However, number of visitors will depend on category where your site is listed. There are some highly competitive categories that may not generate much traffic. Also some search indexes are more likely to include your site if you are listed with Yahoo Directory or Open Directory Project which is discussed later in this article.
You must decide what category your page will be listed under before before submitting it to Yahoo Directory. Usually there is more than one category appropriate for your site. You have to decide which one works best for you based on several factors: relevance, number of competing sites under the category. For example my site www.yourcareerlinks.com is listed under Business & Economy - Employment And Work - Careers And Jobs - Jobs - Directories.
In order to suggest your site to Yahoo Directory, select your category and click Suggest A Site link located below upper right corner. If your category is commercial, you can list your site only through Express submission.
Express submission costs $299. Yahoo editors check your site within 7 days. Please read Yahoo instructions carefully. Your payment of $299 doesn’t guarantee automatic inclusion. If they approve it, your site will be listed in Yahoo Directory and you will pay $299 annually to maintain it in the directory.
Yahoo Standard Submission is free for non-commercial sites. Yahoo doesn’t state when your site will be reviewed with free submission. If you have time to wait, you may try this option.
3.) How To Submit Your Site To Yahoo Index
When you go to http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html, first option is to submit your site for free to Yahoo Search Index. Before you do that, your site must be optimized for Search Engine inclusion with appropriate titles and meta tags. Below you will see what title and meta tags look for this page:
Web Marketing, How To Submit Your Site To Search Engines
Title describes your page in a few words. META name=”DESCRIPTION” is a short outline of what your web page is about. META name=”KEYWORDS” includes keywords relevant to the page. Each page of your site may have different Title and Meta Tags
The purpose of relevant titles and Meta Tags is to help web surfers to identify sites they are looking for through descriptions and keywords. However, it is quiet hard to get top Search Engine placement ( whch is to get listed among first 20- 30 results ) these days. There are many competitors, rules and criterias are constantly changing and it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain high ranking in the Index.
Chances are that your site is not going to be listed high with Indexes. Therefore, my recommendation is to use free submission options to Yahoo Search Index or any other Search Index for that matter unless you are an expert in Search Engine optimization and ranking. You don’t want to pay to get ranked number 256 or whatever.
4.) How To Submit Your Site To Google
Google is another major Search Engine. They offer two opportunities to market your site. You can submit the site to Google Index for free here. As I stated before, you probably are not going to get high ranking, but you might get some clicks from Google if your site will be listed.
Another option to advertise with Google is through Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Program called Google AdWords. You can read in my article about Pay-Per-Click marketing here.
5.) Open Directory Project
Open Directory Project is directory of web sites managed by volunteer editors. Inclusion is free, but it has to be approved by editor. There is no time frame as to when your site will be reviewed. If your site is not listed within a few months after you applied, you can submit it again. Open Directory is located at www.dmoz.org. You should find appropriate category for your site and submit it.
There are other Search Engines out there. Many are based on Yahoo or Google Search. For example, Alta Vista (www.altavista.com ) is now based on Yahoo Search index. Therefore, if your site is listed with Yahoo Search Index, it is probably listed in Alta Vista as well. Some offer paid inclusion in their Index such as Excite while others like Lycos offer Pay Per Click options
In my opinion, the best way to bring traffic to your site is to list it with Yahoo, google and Open Directory Project. In addition, one should use Pay Per Click marketing which is explained in my PPC Marketing Article at http://www.webhostchecklist.com/payperclick.html .

Electrohome Roland Series Clock radio…anyone know anything about these?
The radio is coral and white in color, has twin speakers, and is most likely from the 70’s or earlier. I’m mostly just really curious about when these were made, and whether they are worth anything, since someone left one at work, and said that I could have it, and I’m not sure if I want to add any more clutter to my already cluttered house…Anyone have any info on these things? I can’t seem to find anything in the search engines.
Also, the model number is 5 C 8, and the serial number on this one is 916879…thanks!
Your Electrohome clock radio dates from 1968. When new it retailed for 49.95, quite a bit of cash back then. They were distributed mainly in Canada, but some were sold in the US. The quality of Electrohome products is somewhat better than average for the era, and much better than average by today’s low standards. It’s a nice piece to have, but not worth a whole lot, around 30 dollars or so. Small radios from that period are starting to go up in value, so I would hold on to it. A collectible of the near future….
How To Use Search Engines To Locate Jobs
With the Internet taking off like a rocket and showing no signs of slowing down, employers are looking to it to find job seekers. Using the latest state of the art technology, search engines are aiding employers to find employees and vice versa.
Every day, new jobs are added. Usuers should look every day or every other day for the job. This gives those looking for employment a variety of jobs to explore through. That’s when users should be utilizing the job banks and job search engines.
Through testing, some search engines are able to provide more job websites. This enables searches to see
Some search engines work better than others, offering more job sites, companies, locations and any associations from a keyword being typed in. Engine results will come in a variety of ways from browser listings to e-mails in the inbox.
What are the well known search engines?
Some well known search engines include Indeed.com, Jobster, SimplyHired.com and America’s Job Bank, which lead to more up to date information. There are over 500 listings thanks in part from newspapers, job boards and other companies with their “want ad pages”.
Indeed.com has a feature that allows users to search for company names, any positions and distance - great with commuters.
With America Job Bank, the site will search any job category selected and from the input given, with a zip code and state, it will bring up a list of available jobs in the area. Some salaries are even quoted on this site.
On the website SimplyHired, applicants are given short descriptions about the job including responsibilities that are expected of the personnel. This site will also give the date for when jobs were posted, the type of company and its location.
Jobster provides job from the past seven days to present and it will allow you to choose the distance of said jobs. A good number of sources will pop up from this site.
How Do They do?
Since the sites give timely information with results that stay on longer than most online newspaper sites, it’s no wonder people are checking them out. If you haven’t yet, what are you waiting on? A job is out there waiting.
Personally, SimplyHired.com is the best by far. From showing job titles with links and providing a job description summary. The results were user and job friendly with no confusing information whatsoever.

I got 2 job offers at the same time, chose one and am not regretting my selection….?
So, I got 2 job offers both sort of outside my field. I am a project manager that works with clients and builds their websites. One of the offers was in search engine marketing (dealing with clients) and one was managing the development of web sites internally (no dealing with clients). I chose the first one even though there was a 30% cut in pay and still was working with clients. I thought it had the a better long term outlook . I’m starting to regret this decision because of the large decrease in pay and the large number of people that currently do Search Engine Marketing. It seems like everyone and their brother does it. Two questions:
a) How bad is it to ask for a job back after you rejected it? (I rejected it very nicely and they knew the tough decision which I had)
b) Should I even try to get it back and thus turn down my acceptance on the other one?
Thanks you all!
Personally I’d just contact them and tell them if they was still an opening that you were still interested now, things aren’t working like you thought. My dad turned down a job before and decided he wanted to go back, so he thought about it for a while and contacted them, he to was worried what they would think. Well conclusion they didn’t think bad because they understood why because he had explained to them, another job was what it was. Well he got his back, I’d say its worth the shot whats the worst that could happen them so no, or might say yea, then again they might say yes as soon as we get another opening. You want know unless you try.
How Search Engines Work And Why Search Engine Optimization Is Important
What is a search engine? A search engine is a different type of site on the web which is created to find information that is stored in individual websites for people who type in a keyword or group of keywords seeking information on that topic. Some examples of search engines are google, MSN, Yahoo, to mention a few. Search engine optimization is a very important process to get your website to the top ten in the search engines.
Search engines usually work a little different from each other but they have a few basic tasks they perform. They search the internet based on the important keywords. They store and index the words they find on the internet and where they find them, such as websites. They allow people to search for the important information they have stored in their index.
Search engines use to have only maybe a few hundred thousand pages indexed as there weren’t many computer users. Today a large search engine may have hundreds of millions of web pages indexed as they now have many computer users and a lot of inquiries. Again I need to mention how important it is to get your website optimized to rank well in the search engines.
What are spiders? A search engine indexes files or documents by using special software robots called spiders. These spiders search the internet and so called “crawl” websites searching for information and building lists of important words found on websites.
Spiders usually start at busy sites where there is a lot of activity and crawl through every link on pages of those websites. This crawling quickly spreads out through links. That’s why it is good to have reciprocal links with websites with a high page rank.
What is indexing? After the spiders have finished finding information on Web pages, the search engine must store the information in a way that makes it useful. Most search engines store more than just the word and URL. An engine might store the number of times that the word appears on a page. The engine might assign a weight to each entry, with increasing values assigned to words as they appear near the top of the document, in sub-headings, in links, in the meta tags or in the title of the page. Most search engines have a different formula for assigning weight to the words in its index. This is one of the reasons that a search for the same word on different search engines will produce different lists, with the pages presented in different orders. With so many websites on the internet, knowing website optimization is very important.
What happens when you type a keyword into a search engine? The search engine software or program is the final part. When a person requests a search on a keyword or phrase, the search engine software searches the index for relevant information. The software then provides a report back to the searcher with the most relevant web pages listed first. If you have your website optimized well, you will have an advantage over your competition. How can my father in law make his website :- www.kokospersonalizedbooks.com more popular ?
My father-in-law is trying to make his website www.kokospersonalizedbooks.com more popular. Obviously in this day and age it is very difficult to do this and there appear to be many companies offering their services to try and help the website become number one on a search engine. The cost appears to outweigh the value at least from what I’m hearing. Anyway if anybody has some good suggestions we’d love to hear them.
Build inbound links to your website.
Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:

http://www.kahmer.com

The more inbound links to your site, the better you will rank
with Yahoo / google / MSN.
Also work on your meta tags. Here is an
article on how they work: http://www.richkahmer.com/meta-tags.html
