I am looking for a way to identify all of the number plates/license plates in an image. I am not interested in reading them (i.e. OCR), only identifying the locations of them.

What techniques or algorithms would be useful in finding these? I am currently exploring some of the options available in OpenCV.

The size and colours of UK number plates are defined by law ..

I would search for the correct rectangular outline & colour …..(to optimize your algorithm I suggest using one of the ‘evolution’ techniques from AI).

I made my google voice number not thinking about the area code, and I found a number that has my last name with an S at the end. I immediately took it, and then realized later that it is a Louisiana area code. I live in California. Will it cost my friends long distance to call it if it forwards to a phone that is in my area code. If it does charge them, is there a way to fix that? Thanks.

Yes it will cost them money, since it’s a long distance number, that is, unless they have free long distance. I believe you can change the number if you go to settings in the top right of the google voice page. I just looked, and it says it’s $10 to change it.

There is no way you could really know how much money would be made through Google and Yahoo! ads. There are too many variables.

Take google for example, which would be Google Adsense.

First of all, they do not really tell you the percentage of money they are going to pay you. They just pay you part of what they get from the advertiser. So there is no way to know exactly what percentage you get from the advertiser. People assume it is 50%, but that is not the case.

Second - it depends on the market/niche that your site is on. For example, Weight Loss would be much more lucrative than Cat Toys. Advertisers in the Weight Loss Market pay much more than Advertisers in the Cat Toys Market.

Your conversion rate (the rate at which people click on your ads) will depend on many things as well. Ad placement, ad color and layout and much more. On average, you could earn a 1-3% conversion rate.

So if you get 1000 visitors per day, then you could get as much as 30 clicks per day. Sometimes your conversion rate might be even higher (it all depends on the topic and all that other stuff), so maybe you could have a 10% conversion rate (very high way above average), and that would get you 100 clicks per day. The amount of clicks you can get is easier to estimate.

The problem is that you could never know how much you will get paid. You can use Googles keyword tool in order to estimate, but even then - its hard to tell how much you would get paid.

Most of the time it is anywhere from $0.03 per click to $0.50 per click - and sometimes (once again depending on the topic), you could get as much as a couple of dollars per click. Back to the averages, if you have 1000 visitors, and you get $0.10 per click, then you would make around $5 per day.

If you want to make money from a website, this is the worst way (easiest, but not the most lucrative). Go directly to the advertisers, and you will make more than double for your traffic.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: * It would be the right thing to start with Google Adsense or a similar program when just starting out. Except, your question was about how much you could make - so, although you could make a lot with Google adsense (with tons of traffic), you would make much more with private advertising.

How does google, with it’s innovative culture (personal 20% time) and creative employees, make sure it’s employees remain loyal and do not run off with a great idea and embark on their own entrepreneurial start-up? If an employee has a great proprietary idea, is the idea his or Google’s? I don’t think confidentiality agreements and non-complete contracts are enough to prevent this from happeing. Confidentiality agreements, non-compete contracts, and professional honor ARE most certainly enough to prevent this from happening, at Google the same as at any other company. If anything, Google’s optimum working conditions would likely inspire *more* company loyalty, not less.

when i put my phone number in the search tool on yahoo.com, it shows my name, and where i live. how can i get this removed from yahoo and other search engines???

OMG. Mine is in there too. You can change the listing in account info but mine is a do not show setting and it won’t work.

I just got a motorola cliq and have seen articles all over advertising the new update to google maps allowing navigation but when i go to google mobile it says to access the android market through my phone and download the latest google maps but when i do that google maps does not appear in the market. Is this becuase i am not on the Droid or is there some other problem that is not allowing me to find this new update?

I have recently launched a new website. I just want to know how long does it take for Google to recognize backlinks to my site. I am currently generating backlinks by posting on different forums, blog commenting and directory submission. It has been a week now but still there are 0 backlinks to my site according to Google.

Yahoo is relatively quicker than Google in recognizing backlinks. Does anyone have any idea how long does it take for Google to recognize backlinks to my website?

If your backlinks come from good quality (good according to Google) sites then only Google lists them and better quality links take very less time to appear I have seen Google pick up links for my site in less the 4 days. Normally, it will take about 1-2 weeks to get the effect of your backlinks. However, if you can get backlinks from high traffic pages or sites, Google normally used to visit those sites very frequently.

google doesn’t list every backlinks to your website, but yahoo does. That’s why you think yahoo is quicker. But I believe that Google is faster than Yahoo in indexing websites, so happened to me. If you links are listed in Yahoo, sure Google knows about them, but it may not list them. Use Social Bookmarking which all are high quality site according to Google also when you bookmark your website with Social Bookmarking site you will find most of them are authority site also so you will get very quick back link.
